It had been a long time since I’d had the pleasure of strolling around downtown and coming across a beautiful soul that my heart and my camera connected with … but I happened to be down there for a photoshoot, and was trying to figure out some logistics for some specific shots I wanted to get next week for an engagement session. I guess I looked like I didn’t know what I was doing, so this kind, personable homeless gentleman offered to help. Course, he knew the area top to bottom, and he really did totally help me figure it all out — then he admitted he was hungry. That was my cue. Over a couple of tacos, Joseph told me all about what it was like to live on the Riverwalk with nothing. I asked him, tho, if he had God. His answer was sincere: Jesus was his best friend — so much so that he was okay not having anyone else.
I told him, “Well then, Joseph… you may not have a home here… but even as we speak, a mansion is being built for you in another place… and one day, I’ll come visit you there” 🙂 Then I gave him a hug and we were on our way… As he walked off, he turned around and said, “Well, I’ll see you again then, won’t I!” “Yep, Joseph! You sure will!” That was the best part of my day 🙂
