My Jackson Day

Yesterday was such a special day for me! I got to spend some of the most amazing time with just Jackson. I’ve always been sensitive about the feelings of the little ones in our family, so usually if I do something with one of them, their sibling or cousins are more than welcome to come too. But we’d been noticing that we have all these adorable little girl pictures of Reagan and now Baby Madison, but somehow little boy pictures were fewer and far between. So we made a date. Just him and me. We would go somewhere fun and take some pictures, then….. as a reward for his hard work, we would make a trip to the toy department at Target. Yes! He was in for that deal. He coined our special day a “Jackson Day”.

I picked him up at 9:00am on a beautiful (for photographers anyway) cloudy morning and we headed to the Japanese Tea Gardens. My heart still gets all warm and mushy when I think of how amazingly sweet and cooperative he was about posing for one picture after another. I mean. He’s 4!! Yet, with every suggestion: “Can you turn a little more towards me?”, “Can you put your hands away from your face now?”, “Ohhhhhh…. Can you kick that ball one more time??” he obliged like a little pro! We giggled and laughed, and gave high fives when we nailed one. Auuugh… I adore that little boy!!

Oh, and I have to add: When we got to Target, I asked him if he would mind also helping me pick out a little something for Reagan too since she didn’t get to come with us, and he spent so much time and genuine effort in trying to find just the right thing for Reagan that I finally had to tell him, “Hey, Sweet Pea… this is for you … let’s pick something out for you.” His heart is so pure!

So here’s the story of our day. A day I will treasure forever. It’s not lost on me for a second how precious these times will be remembered someday (all too soon) when he’ll be way too busy with friends and sports — and his music — to need a “Jackson Day”. “Thank you, God for this one!

About Sandy

I'm Sandy Powers, full-time photographer, doing what I love with my life! My passion is PEOPLE! There is such artistry in people, and I love capturing it. Naturally, portraiture is my passion, but I also love shooting for the art of photography for competitions or exhibit. I once watched an interview with Kim Walker, a well-known Christian worship leader. What she said resonated with me and pretty much describes my own story. In the interview, she said she didn't have to force things to happen for herself. She didn't have to push. She didn't have to overly promote herself or call people and beg them to hire her. In fact, she didn't have to do anything except keep her eyes on Jesus and watch Him bring her destiny to her. That's exactly how I feel. I walk each day by faith, and my eyes are on Him! I have watched in amazement as He has orchestrated circumstance to bring my destiny to me. I thank Him daily for allowing me to not only do what I love, but to use what I love to bless others! So, how is "the destiny" unfolding? Well. . . . My work has been juried into temporary museum and art gallery exhibits, I have been featured in Outdoor Photographer Magazine, my portraiture and fine art have won several awards in national and international competitions, and one of my portraits was selected by an Adobe Lightroom blog as one of the top 50 most stunning black and white photos. I'm a member of Professional Photographers of America and the Texas Photographic Society. Anything else??? Send me a note (Sandy@SandyP.net) any time! I LOVE meeting new people, sharing stories, and best of all, changing the "ordinary" to extraordinary through photography!

You did such a great job and so did Jackson! These are really beautiful, Sandy. Love the song you chose, too – one of my favorites. It looks like you had a really fun and memorable day.

(Argh, you’re killin’ me with the flowers. I want flowers!!)

Jackson is such a charming and loving boy and your photos capture all of that! One question – did the ball ever land in the water at the Tea Gardens? : )

Seriously, I love your work and all your grandkids, too. It is all so beautiful.

You really have come a long way SandyP. The day with Jackson is a tribute to his ability to interact with with you on a level playing field with your guideance. I like the way you have captured his personality’s with expression and composition. Age has no difference where there is love, as shown by the both of you.
    Cheers

  7. Oh what a precious time you had with Jackson. I know what you mean…I don’t seem to capture near the photos of my grandsons as I do the little girls except for when I get to go home and it is baseball season. The music is perfect for this series….beautiful done my sweet friend.
    Hugs to you!
