To Megan and Caitlin

Our amazing Megan & Caitlin! They came into my life when their big sister married my son, and of course, I immediately fell in love with them and wanted to share photography with them. They were so interested. Even as little girls they were such fun models! They instinctively knew how to look fabulous and artistic in photos. They weren’t just naturally beautiful (even tho they were), they knew how to look “serious” without looking “mad”. They could show you “attitude” without looking “bored. And they could flash such radiant smiles you just knew that likely n’ery a “Cheeeeeeese” had been uttered by these pros in their whole lives. I LOVE THAT!!! And… these are things I’ve discovered in my years of photographing people that are actually quite impressive gifts, and the 3 of us and my camera have had some awesome times together capturing the unique and stunning essense of Megan & Caitlin.

So, they were turning 18 just two days after our shoot (On New Year’s Eve). I asked them, “What is the main thing you would like to see in these pictures.” Their response: “We want to show that we’re not little girls anymore.” They are tiny & enviably petite, but little girls??? Oh no, they are not! So we set about capturing their wonderful young adult beauty. I think we did a good job of accomplishing our goal, don’t you? We tried this and that in the studio, then we went to lunch & a drive to find some graffiti and some urban edginess. It was such a fun day!

And last but not least…. I had to wait several days before posting any of the pictures or the slideshow because I entered two of the pictures into contests on my photography site, DPchallenge. The pictures in contest are supposed to be super anonymous until after the results are tallied. So how’d they do??? Wellllll…. both pictures received a prestigious 4th Place Honorable Mention — not bad competing against some of the best portrait photographers in the world!

And of course… finally, I had to say it with a song, so here’s a slideshow with my song to Megan & Caitlin. I love you guys so much! I’m honored that you are such an important part of my life!

About Sandy

I'm Sandy Powers, full-time photographer, doing what I love with my life! My passion is PEOPLE! There is such artistry in people, and I love capturing it: in fine art portraiture, in weddings, or even in a stunning landscape. I recently watched an interview with Kim Walker, a well-known Christian worship leader. What she said resonated with me and pretty much describes my own story. She said, "I didn't have to force things to happen. I didn't have to push. I didn't have to overly promote myself or call people and beg them to hire me. In fact, I didn't have to do anything except keep my eyes on Jesus and watch Him bring my destiny to me." That's how I feel. I walk each day by faith, and my eyes are on Him! I have watched in amazement as He has orchestrated circumstance to bring my destiny to me. I thank Him daily for allowing me to not only do what I love, but to use what I love to bless others! So, how is "the destiny" unfolding? Well. . . . My work was juried into a museum exhibit at the Martin Museum of Art at Baylor University, I have been featured in Outdoor Photographer Magazine, my portraiture and fine art have won several international awards, and I currently have the great honor of being a member of a fine art gallery called Perspectives Gallery of Art where my photography is displayed and sold to the public. Also, one of my portraits was recently selected by an Adobe Lightroom blog as one of the top 50 most stunning black and white photos. Anything else??? Send me a note (Sandy@SandyP.net)! I LOVE meeting new people, sharing my story, and best of all, documenting the magic moments in your life so that the fairy tale can stay alive forever!
